Easter Lamb Truck Wreck 1956

Fred reported this story, which happen when he was a 5th grader:
Wrecked 54 Chevy 1 ton dualie truck driven by Levi Roth with Ray Roth as passenger. They were taking a load of Easter lambs to market in Waterloo, IA. A semi jack-knifed on ice, and the trailer slammed into them. Levi was pinned inside and Ray was thrown from the truck. Gas leaked from the tank and a fire started under the truck where Levi was. George Widmer came by in a Ruan Gas semi and put out the fire with his fire extinguisher. They were taken by ambulance to the University Hospital in Iowa City.

This occurred 1/2 mi north of Coralville Lake on old 218–close to where the road comes up out of the reservoir today. The truck was in a wrecking yard ‘You Smash em’ We Fix em’ in Iowa City, IA. 1956

I was 5 yo and remember when Dad was home from the hospital, in a bed in the living room, where he didn’t sit still very long.
